The Cultural Landscape of Bali

The Subak System as a Manifestiation of Tri Hita Karana Philosophy

April 4, 2013
il Giardino
Jalan Kajeng, Ubud, Bali

The main presenter of this event was Wiwik Dharmasiah, Coordinator for the Program and Planning Unit at the Governing Assembly for Bali’s Cultural Heritage, which manages the preservation of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Bali. Wiwik connected us to Steven Lansing, Professor of Anthropology at University of Arizona through a highly instructive video.

The presentation focused on the 2012 UNESCO World Heritage Award given to the Subak (traditional irrigation systems) of Bali, along with the proposed protection & management plan. A lively question & answer period followed, with discussion about the implementation of the program.

Complimentary Welcome Drinks and delicious antipasto were presented by the venue hosts, il Giardino.
